Muar leads the pack !

Muar leads the pack for the first time in the history.
When we hear someone is leading, always it is a good matter, but in this case, Muar is leading in the air pollutant index (API) scale.  Gheez, and for the first time in Muar, the haze is so so so extreme terrible.

That was yesterday, 19 October 2010, where the haze blocked the sun and visibility was about 500m away.

While changing my car battery, I can see some of the workers there already started to use face mask.

Today, I was indeed shocked that the API index was 415 and was categories RED ZONE AREA.... not for prostitution please.....  it is HAZARDOUS !  But, the visiblity is much better and the sun is heating the ground.

Just a short info on API.
The air quality in Malaysia is described in terms of Air Pollutant Index (API), an indicator that was developed based on scientific assessment to indicate in an easily understood manner, the presence of pollutants and its impact on health.

The API readings are classied as follows :-
     0 -  50 (good)
    5 - 100 (moderate)
101 - 200 (unhealthy)
201 - 300 (very unhealthy)
300 and above (hazardous)

From the BERNAMA, the public is advised not to carry out open burning and to cooperate by putting out small fires, and to report on open burning by calling 999 or 1-800-88-2727.  Why catch the small flies instead of big beetles ?

** to check on the API level please visit our Department of Environment.

So, what should we do during this period ?

Hiding at home would be the best, closing all the windows and switching on the Sharp Air Purifier... but this can't be done...  we can't lock ourselves in the cubicle.

Since we need to go out... please try to wear a face mask...and not that "kua zhang", because Muarians are still mountain tortoise !  No much people will wear face mask even if the API shoots up to 600.

Next, drinking water often is the best... lets shout aloud informing Muarians out there to drink more water.
